- The video game “Cars 3 Race to Victory” comes out a few weeks before the movie in theaters.
- We tested it in preview and as a family.
- Is it a game for kids or can all gamers have fun?
What is needed in priority to test a video game in family … it is a family and in particular children in the case of Cars 3 Race to victory coming out this Wednesday (on PS3, PS4, XB360, XB1, Switch and WiiU).

It is therefore accompanied by wife and children (7 and 19 years old) that we did, to 20 Minutes, our first laps on this racing game inspired by the upcoming Pixar film which will be released on August 2.
First essential point of this game: the universe. “Too good, there’s Lightning McQueen and Martin and Sully!” Exclaims my 7 year old son. There are in fact 23 characters from the Cars universe including the new Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm, two key characters in the upcoming feature film. Characters who have their lines, in French, and which fit perfectly into the Pixar universe that kids know by heart.
The game features 21 different tracks, 15 of which are inspired by the upcoming movie! Again, no room for error, but Avalanche Software is a specialist in Disney games: the studio even belonged to it a few months ago, before Mickey’s parent company let it go and it was taken over in extremis by Warner …
Many game modes and 136 challenges!
Engine! And the first good surprise: each of the different races can be played by four people simultaneously on the same screen. Cars 3 relies on conviviality and sharing. We love ! On the sofa, the whole family is in love as my 19-year-old daughter launches a part of “combat race” (there are also simple races, time trials, acrobatic competitions or else. more stock car races where you have to shoot small vehicles).
There, in a very Mario Kart, we go on the track collecting bonuses thanks to which we can knock out the opponent. You can be first one moment and good last the second after! Laughter guaranteed as the dozen competitors chained the laps.
A real challenge for the older ones
What to realize that the game is nevertheless not so easy to take in hand while my son pleads not to finish first, beaten by the other vehicles directed by the console. “It sucks,” he blurted out with the nuances of his age, “it’s too hard! “.
Fortunately, the game offers an easy mode that is much more accessible even if some of the 136 challenges to be completed are real challenges. The youngest may be struggling! And the older ones too, who will have a hard time on certain tracks during timed events, for example. “There is a real challenge,” comments my daughter, “it’s not just for babies, it’s cool! “
Game modes suitable for everyone
Children may prefer to try out the Thomasville playground. There, alone or with friends, you can walk, compete, complete challenges in a small open-world playground. Ideal for kids who do not have to face other opponents controlled by the console.
Sponsored Team Mode allows two to four players to meet head-to-head on any track. Each player can then choose his own team, or two against two, or even three against one. It is in this mode that we will end our game session Cars 3, where my companion, my daughter and my son took great pleasure in confronting me, me alone against them all. What to understand that this Cars– it’s a real good racing game for the whole family. At each age its pleasures, they say. There is clearly something there for all ages and enough to have fun before the arrival of the film, on August 2.
