Having announced its ambitions a few years ago, SAP Labs France fulfilled its objective by the set deadline: to have an electric vehicle fleet in 2021. “Of our 280 company vehicles, 260 are electric, ie over 92% of the fleet. The few remaining hybrid and gasoline models will be replaced by electric vehicles next September ”, says Hanno Klausmeier, its president.
To achieve the generalization of the 100% electric motorization of its fleet, SAP Labs France has encouraged its employees (consultants, technical support, etc.) to adopt, in its car policy, the latest models equipped with a large battery to guarantee real autonomy between 300 and 450 kilometers.
The choice of models
“Our consultants and, above all, our technical support staff are sometimes required to make long journeys for missions to our customers and partners. The electric models they use thus cover their uses for both short-distance urban and peri-urban areas and long-distance road ”, underlines the leader. The company thus offers in its catalog, the Korean Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia e-Niro and Kia soul EV as well as the American Tesla model 3 and model S, the Jaguar I-Pace or the new Nissan Leaf.
“The two models praised by our employees are the Tesla Model 3 and the Kia e-Niro, but the new Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 as well as the Skoda Enyaq SUV that we are offering are also successful”, says Hanno Klausmeier. While the choice of vehicles is free, the company nevertheless asks employees, on certain models, for compensation in the form of a salary deduction.
These new models are added to the older contingent of electric Renault Zoé, Volkswagen e-Golf, Nissan Leaf and other models of the fleet that the company has gradually introduced in its catalog since 2016. It was in this year that the he company has removed the acquisition of diesel vehicles from its car policy. Then, on January 1, 2019, it decided to eliminate all thermal cars from it.
To carry out its fleet electrification policy, SAP Labs France has had to gradually convince its employees of the relevance of the electric car. “We notably led them to adopt electric motorization through a financial incentive, a sort of internal ecobonus”, explains Hanno Klausmeier. At the same time, the company has developed its charging infrastructure at its three sites in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes), Caen (Calvados) and Paris to support the growth of its electric fleet.
SAP Labs France has invested “Around 700,000 euros”, according to the manager, to develop 40 charging points in Mougins, including two fast charging stations and one ultra-fast, and 12 points in Caen. Its Paris site, managed by the SAP France parent company, is equipped with around twenty charging points. The company intends to further increase the number of its charging stations to eventually cover its entire electric fleet.
But, to limit the cost of infrastructure and “Unload the electrical capacity of its network on sites”, the company also encourages its employees, thanks to a bonus of 700 euros, to install a home terminal. “We are accelerating our home charging program. About fifty of our employees have already subscribed to this offer », exhibits Hanno Klausmeier. And to organize and optimize the reservation or availability of its charging stations on site, SAP Labs France has developed a monitoring software platform, which allows employees to be alerted, by e-mail or by notification on smartphone, that the charging of their vehicle is completed.
