All defective or dangerous products are listed on this platform, launched this Thursday.
After the success of Signal Conso, launched last year to warn about difficulties or scams during a purchase in store or on the internet, the Ministry of the Economy has decided to launch a new platform: Recall Conso. The latter makes it possible to gather all the information concerning recalls of defective or dangerous products.
The project initiated by the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, the General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) and the services of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Ecological Transition, emerged following the dysfunctions observed in the management of the recall of milk contaminated with salmonella in 2018.
Already mandatory before, under penalty of a fine of 1500 euros, the fact for the company to communicate in the event of withdrawal or recall, was rendered almost useless by the difficulty for the consumer to have access to information, that this either in store or with the public authorities. Depending on the type of product, they could thus be found on the website of the Ministry of the Economy or of Agriculture. Similarly, the sites 60 million consumers or Que To Choose offered summary lists. Finally, sites like Oulah could alert quickly thanks to notifications on the phone.
Difficulty in contacting consumers in supermarkets
If for sectors like the automobile, the few recalls, concerned several tens of thousands of cars, like Tesla recently, and the risks such as the information was quickly communicated, this was not the case of certain products of the great distribution or localized failures. For the latter, it is almost impossible to know and warn everyone who has bought a dangerous product. This is the problem encountered by Auchan, at the beginning of March, when “small metal wires that may present a risk of injury to consumers»Were found in these yogurts.
From now on, everyone can have a clear vision on Recall Conso. The products are classified into different categories such as food, automobile and means of transport, home-habitat … For each product, in addition to the name and a photo, the risk such as external injuries or the presence of chemical contaminants is indicated and the reason withdrawal such as the presence of chemical, or failures of the security system, as well as the area affected by the recall. If the consumer has at home an article cited on the site, the latter explains the procedure to be followed.
Some exceptions however; medicines and medical devices follow a different procedure and are declared to the National Medicines Safety Agency. The same applies to second-hand or reconditioned products which are not subject to the obligation to declare on the site.
