Mercedes-Benz CLS 2022: an update that feels good

The Mercedes-Benz CLS, the pioneer of four-door coupes, receives a major update for the 2022 model year.

Since design is the main motivation for buyers of the CLS, the manufacturer initially focused on this aspect. The grille (with its pattern that reproduces the three-pointed star) and the bumpers have been redesigned to give the car a little more character.

In Canada, the CLS 450 4MATIC version sports the AMG exterior styling package as standard, including, among other things, distinctive air intakes and a silver chrome front spoiler. Another new addition is the Spectral Blue Metallic body color you see here.

For its part, the sporty CLS 53 4MATIC + stands out with vertical bars on the grille and more elegant rims. Different sets are offered, including one focused on the track that adds red brake calipers in addition to a Race mode that will delight fans of controlled skidding.

Chic inside too

The interior is not to be outdone, as two new trims are available, including for the center console: open-pore brown walnut wood and high-gloss gray wood. Likewise, two color combinations are added for the leather seats: Neva Gray / Magma Gray and Hazelnut Brown / Black.

Then, the steering wheel wrapped in nappa leather has been modernized to bring an additional touch of elegance. By opting for the Smart Driving package, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance, the steering wheel incorporates sensors that detect the presence of hands in order to allow semi-autonomous driving.

Nothing new under the hood

The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine is back, producing 362 horsepower at the base or 429 under the hood of the CLS 53. In the mild hybrid system called EQ Boost, it does Fitted with a 48-volt battery that temporarily provides an extra 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, as seen elsewhere at Mercedes. You will not fail to appreciate it!

As mentioned earlier, the 4MATIC four-wheel drive system is present in all cases. That of the AMG version (4MATIC +) is more sophisticated and performance oriented. It comes with a nine-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and AMG Ride Control + air suspension for added dynamism.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS will arrive in dealerships this fall. Prices will be announced at this time.
