A few days after discovering Aston Martin’s new safety and medical cars for the 2021 F1 2021 season, it’s time to discover the new versions signed by the historic actor, Mercedes-AMG.
We grant you, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is nothing new, since it already fulfills this role since 2018. But we immediately notice its new exterior color, a very bright red, which will perhaps not delight Ferrari.
The fact is that, during the 2021 season, the two different Safety Cars, the German and the British, will alternate their arrival. One Grand Prix for the Vantage, another for the AMG GT R. And it will be the same for the two Medical Cars, on one side the Aston Martin DBX, and on the other the C 63 S station wagon.
In reality this good understanding between the two parties is not surprising, given their close ties already in automotive terms, the Aston Martins carrying a Mercedes-AMG engine from the DB11.
Regardless, the German firm continues to be associated with the “Grand Cirque” from a safety point of view, which it has been doing continuously since 1996, when the Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG appeared. as a safety car.
But this time around, it’s doing it with a new bodywork business partner, CrowdStrike, who brings that red color to the car. What does not change is the driver, who will remain the veteran and always fast Bernd Mayländer.
As you know, the Mercedes-AMG GT R has a 4.0 V8 petrol engine, equipped with two turbos, which delivers 585 hp and allows the model to reach a top speed of 318 km / h and accelerate from 0 to 100 in 3.6 seconds.
For its part, the medical car, with pilot Alan van der Merwe at the wheel, delivers no less than 510 hp. A minimum when you have to follow F1 during the first lap of the race, in case there is an incident in which you need to intervene!
