The Amiens Lilou Wadoux will be next weekend at the start of his second season in the Alpine Elf Europa Cup. As she passes her partials, the young Autosport GP driver is counting on a new, more powerful car for «Shows the podium» after his 7th place final last year.
“With two months without riding, the truce was really long” notes Lilou Wadoux, a week before setting out to attack his second season in the Alpine Elf Europa Cup. A winter break that the Samarienne took advantage of to “Enjoy family and friends. I took care of myself, but I was still not used to cutting for so long ”. A cut with the circuits which visibly caused a feeling of lack but which also allowed him to focus on your studies. Lilou Wadoux is in the 2nd year of BTS Bâtiment, in Boulogne-sur-Mer. “And there, I’m right in the partial” confides the one who would necessarily have preferred that her exams did not fall just before the start of the season …
30 more hp under the hood!
Listening to Lilou Wadoux, one has the impression that the preparation behind the wheel of the new version of the A 110 Cup was minimalist. “We rode it once last weekend. With 30 more hp, the engine is more powerful ”, rejoices Lilou Wadoux, after this taxiing carried out on the circuit of Nogaro, where the championship will start April 3, 4 and 5. Despite the Covid pandemic, 2021 allows us to reconnect with a tradition put on hold last year: Easter Cups are launching, behind closed doors of course, the Alpine Cup season in the Gers.
“Keeping the title is going to be even harder …” Lilou Wadoux, Autosport GP driver
Unlike last year when Lilou Wadoux discovered a new competition, a new car and a new team – the Lyon Autosport GP team – this time the Samarienne knows where she is going. “The atmosphere is still good in the team. JB (Jean-Baptiste Mela, the 2020 champion) and Laurent (Hurgon, son dauphin) sstill have there. Edwin (Traynard, 6th in the 2020 general classification and 3rd in the juniors) left, but most of the engineers and mechanics stayed ”. So obviously, the objectives are high for 2021! “Keeping the title, it’s going to be even harder than winning it the first time” warns Lilou Wadoux. ” I will have more experience… But the others too… ” the Amiens woman immediately changed her mind, who this year “Aim for the podium in the general scratch classification”. A legitimate goal after its 7th place of 2020, to which must be added the 4th rank of juniors.
A rich pilot line-up
Because the competition promises to be tough, with a field of drivers which has grown, as expected. They are about twenty announced on the starting grid of Nogaro, subject to negative PCR test. Last year, they were between 14 and 18 at the start of each race. At Autosport GP, the experienced Sarthois Thomas Dagoneau, 38 years old and several 24 Hours of Le Mans to his name is one of the new ones, with Simon Tirman. The Parisian, almost 25 years old, was bottle-fed Formula 4 several years ago.
“There are more pilots but I don’t care! (sic) “ Lilou wadoux
“There are going to be more pilots, it’s true, but I don’t care! (sic) ” loose Lilou Wadoux, as she doesn’t care about being again one of the two females committed, always with the Polish Gosia Rdest (Chazel Technologie Course), 8th overall last year. “You have to be in front, that’s all …” continues the young Amiénoise, classified systematically between 4th and 8th places in each race last season. Knowing that when she says this, Lilou Wadoux is not only talking about her case but about Autosport GP drivers as a whole. “We get along well, so if one is faster, the others won’t suit him put sticks in the wheels« . The recent past has shown it, with a regular fight at the end of which the junior Jean-Baptiste Mela had preceded the former Laurent Hurgon, on the highest step of the 2020 podium of the Alpine Elf Europa Cup.
Hitting a big blow in the year he turns 20
Anyway … The season when Alpine talk about her for her arrival in the big world of Formula 1, with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon in the single-seaters, Lilou Wadoux intends to continue his ascent in a competition which truly becomes again european, with as many meetings planned outside French borders as in France. The year of its 20 years – it will celebrate it on April 10 -, Lilou Wadoux wants to strike a big blow in Alpine, while waiting to touch the steering wheels which have hitherto been hidden under his hands. The health crisis and reduced budgets slowed down the young woman in a hurry …
