Alphabet (BMW) was held back by the crisis in 2020

Alphabet, a subsidiary of the BMW group specializing in LLD solutions, saw its level of orders decline slightly in 2020, with its fleet of managed vehicles stabilizing at around 700,000 units. On the other hand, internationalization and electrification are at the rendezvous.

“2020 has been a difficult year for all of us”, Explain Marco Lessacher, Chairman and CEO of Alphabet International, when referring to the group’s annual results, while adding: “The slightly lower number of orders reflects a general situation disrupted by the health situation: vehicles were used less, which resulted in a reduction in mileage, an increase in requests for contract extensions and a strong demand for flexibility. We have responded to this development with very flexible products, such as AlphaRent, which allows vehicles to be hired for a few days or months, and of course, increased support at all levels. When I look at what we have been able to achieve for our clients, I am very confident for the future ”. In slight decline, Alphabet’s total portfolio stabilized at around 700,000 vehicles in the fleet, of which nearly 100,000 in France. As a result of the pandemic, the overall order volume contracted to 206,000 units.

“In 2021, 1 in 5 LLDs will concern an electrified vehicle”

In addition, following major market developments, the group has gained momentum on the adoption of alternative energies. Alphabet put 26,000 electrified vehicles on the road in 2020, 34% more than in 2019. After five years of continuous growth, its market share now represents nearly 5% of LLD EV / PHEV registrations in the 13 countries where the lessor has subsidiaries. The development of the AlphaElectric solution naturally remains on the agenda for 2021 where “one in five LLDs will concern an electrified vehicle”. “Electric mobility will not be the only one to mark the year to come. The digitization of our services and the great flexibility of our solutions will play a crucial role in helping our customers face the future under the best possible conditions ”, says Marco Lessacher. Alphabet will also continue its internationalization, after having established itself in Australia and New Zealand through the OneNet network, bringing its geographical coverage to 31 countries in the world.
